Artificial grass is becoming a popular choice for parks and athletic fields across the nation. And now, yet another city has opted to replace natural grass sports fields with synthetic turf. The Press Enterprise reports that Murrieta plans to replace two grass fields at Los Alamos Hills Sports Park with synthetic turf. According to the article, the park will receive one synthetic turf soccer field and one synthetic turf football field. Construction is scheduled to start in April and should be completed by July 2014.
According to the article, the city decided to install an artificial lawn to “save money on maintenance.” They plan to save $10,000 per field per year just by not having to irrigate the natural grass fields. They will also be saving $5,400 on mowing, and $13,500 per field each year on repairing torn-up grass after each season of heavy duty traffic.
Another reason they opted for fake grass fields is because it will be a “reduction in down time.” With natural grass, the city usually closes the fields at least 60 to 90 days a year to repair the fields. However, with synthetic turf, the park will be open year-round.
Murrieta City is just one more example of why so people prefer fake grass over natural grass fields. Are you ready to make the switch?
