Not many individuals think of a fake lawn as being environmentally friendly, but thanks to this maintenance free product cities have saved over two hundred million gallons of water all together throughout the nation. In fact many cities even offer rebates for the installation of a synthetic lawn.
A little over a year now Long Beach’s Department of Water will pay residents $2.50 in rebates per square foot to have their lawn removed and replaced with synthetic grass. This offer extends up to $2,500 dollars, and there are other regulations that do apply. More details can be found by searching online, but the efforts of Long Beach’s Department of Water demonstrate the advantages of having an artificial lawn and the amount of water that can be saved to help our planet.
Long Beach is not the only one offering rebates either, because California, as a whole, is urging water conservation as summer rolls around. Summer is one of the hottest times of the year for Californians and millions of gallons of water are spent each summer on watering lawns. This is why the California American Water and the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District are offering similar rebates to those in Long Beach. Residents who replace their lawns with low water plants or permeable surfaces can receive $1.25 per square-foot, up to 2,000 square feet. While residents who install outdoor artificial turf can get rebates of $2.00 per square-foot up to 2,000 square feet.
