Sports fields in high schools across the nation are embracing artificial turf over natural grass, and Braintree High is no exception. WickedLocal.com reports that the town council voted on January 4 to enhance the athletic facilities at Braintree High School in Massachusetts — a move that includes the construction of two multi-purpose synthetic turf fields.
In order to achieve his goal, Mayor Joseph Sullivan has requested to raise $2,025,000 through the issuance of bonds. The project to design, construct and equip a synthetic turf football/multipurpose field costs around $1,150,000. The artificial grass cost for a soccer field is around $875,000.
“It makes sense,” Vice President Charles Kokoros of District 1 told the paper. “It really is important for us to make sure that we have excellent playing conditions. It brings Braintree High School a couple of steps ahead of other communities.”
Along with two wholesale artificial turf fields, the new construction will include a pool and a community skating rink.
