Athletic synthetic turf is growing in popularity, and there are many reasons why. According to the Synthetic Turf Council, each year its usage saves billions of gallons of water, millions of pounds of pesticides and fertilizers and recycles 25 million tires that were otherwise headed to landfills. And now there is one more reason to make the switch to an artificial grass lawn or playing field — to join the winning teams!
The STC announced last month that 12 of the 25 teams in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) rankings play their homes games on synthetic turf fields. According to the press release, these teams have a winning percentage of 86 percent to 82 percent for teams without athletic fake lawn grass.
“Over the past decade, we have seen a steady increase in the amount of winning teams that play and practice regularly on synthetic turf,” noted Rick Doyle, President of the Synthetic Turf Council. “These fields have created more opportunities for America’s amateur athletes to play and practice football without worrying about weather disruptions or over-used playing surfaces.”
Today there are more than 6,000 artificial turf playing fields which are in use in the United States. If you’re interested in learning more about how synthetic grass can benefit your athletic facility, please contact us today.
