Yet another athletic field makes the switch to synthetic turf, and this time it’s not in the U.S.! McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, British Columbia is getting a new fake grass turf field, according to LangleyTimes.com. The $250,000 project is being funded by the federal government and includes leveling an existing field and renovating the park’s drainage system. The money to cover the artificial grass cost comes from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.
Like many parks around the world, McLeod Athletic Park currently offers the community a host of amenities, including a playground, running track, and picnic areas. Sports areas include a baseball diamond, basketball courts, and tennis courts. With the addition of this new fake turf, the park can now offer children, teens, and adults a safe and durable athletic field that can be played on year-round. In fact, the new fields will support the Special Olympics BC Summer Games in July as well as the Canadian youth Legion track and field championships in August.
McLeod Athletic Park is not the only park to say yes to fake grass. In fact, athletic fields across the nation are making the switch to artificial grass playing fields. Unlike artificial residential turf, athletic-grade synthetic grass is made to withstand the toughest demands of today’s athletic applications, whether soccer, football, baseball or rugby.
