When I moved into my new house, there was a 14’x22’ dog run along side of the property. This area was landscaped with crushed gravel, which my dogs hated. My wife said we should research artificial grass turf because she saw a synthetic lawn at a dog boarding facility. To finish the prep for the artificial turf lawn, I compacted an inch of stone dust on top of the existing gravel. The dogs are now thanking us for their new play area!
